Drama in the skies...this late-December image captures ominous-looking clouds at sunset over the mountains to our west in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. Here in Middletown Virginia, we're very frequently treated to such dramatic aerial displays, particularly during the Fall and Winter months. In this shot, the setting sun has already descended below the peaks of the distant mountains but its light illuminates the deeply colored clouds above with an intense fiery light that might suggest sky-on-fire, with the contrasting peaks and valleys in the foreground appearing only as a dark silhouette.
